Honest Comparison

Pictor vs Simple Booth: An Honest Comparison for Photo Booth Operators

A side-by-side comparison of Pictor and Simple Booth photo booth software — pricing, AI costs, virtual booth, platform support, and which one fits your events. Built by a booth operator, for booth operators.

Last updated · All claims sourced from both vendors’ public pages

If you’ve made it here, you’ve probably noticed that Pictor and Simple Booth look almost identical from a distance — same pricing tier names, same AI-included pitch, even the same “virtual booth” feature. That’s intentional. We’re competing for the same operators.

So instead of pretending we’re different, here’s a side-by-side on the things that actually matter: pricing, AI costs, platform support, virtual booth, and what each platform doesn’t have yet.

We’ve tried both products. We’re not here to trash Simple Booth — they’re a real company with a 4.7-star app and 30,000+ customers. Sometimes we’re the right call, sometimes they are, and we’d rather you pick correctly than pick us.

Quick Verdict

Pictor might be the better fit if you need to run on Android, Mac, or PC (not just iPad), you want a full-featured virtual booth with AI photo support (or Premium tier AI video capabilities), or you value software built by people who run a photo booth business every weekend.

Simple Booth might be the better fit if you’re already invested in the iPad ecosystem, you want the HALO hardware kit (light + stand + iPad mount) sold as one bundle with the software, and you like having phone support on the mid-tier and above.

Pictor’s honest note: The dollar amounts look similar — both of us land at $49 / $99 / $149 for our main tiers. The real differences hide in the details: weekly pricing, add-on license pricing, AI credit costs, and what happens at the enterprise tier. Read on.

The Platform Question

This is the single biggest difference between us. Simple Booth is built for iPad. Pictor is built to run anywhere.

Android tablet Yes Not offered
Mac (native app) Yes (via virtual booth) Not offered (virtual booth runs in browser)
PC (native app) Yes (via virtual booth) Not offered (virtual booth runs in browser)
Virtual booth (browser-based) Yes — AI photo AND AI video Yes — web-based, requires sales quote for full version

Hardware bundle sold with software Not offered Yes — HALO Light + iPad mount + stand, sold as a kit

Pictor’s honest note: If your entire fleet is iPad and you want the HALO hardware bundle, Simple Booth is a genuinely good choice — and their polish is something we respect. If you’ve been eyeing Android tablets (cheaper to deploy, more variety in form factor), or you want to run a Mac mini as a kiosk, that’s us.

The AI Question

Both platforms include AI on every paid tier. The variable cost comes down to how AI generation is billed.

What AI Costs on Each Platform

AI Cost Item Pictor Simple Booth
AI photo effects at the $49 entry tier Included Included
AI video effects Premium tier only Included on Plus / Pro / Select (Core tier: not listed as a feature)
AI background removal Included (token-based; 1 token per image per pictor.pro/pricing) Included (credits required — see below)
Billing model Tokens — bundled, published rates, rollover varies Credits — $0.10 per credit, 1–3 credits per generation depending on model
AI models available Pictor’s published model lineup (see pictor.pro/pricing for current) Nano Banana 1 (1 credit), Nano Banana 2 (2 credits), Nano Banana Pro (3 credits)
Free testing of AI prompts Check pictor.pro/pricing Yes — testing outside booth mode is credit-free
Sign-up complimentary credits Check pictor.pro/pricing 25 free credits for new trials; 50 / 100 / 150 / 250 included with Core / Plus / Pro / Select plans
Minimum plan to use AI at all $49/mo $49/mo (Core) — credits may run out before month-end on heavy events

Pictor’s honest note: Simple Booth’s “credit-free testing” is a real operator-friendly feature — you can iterate prompts in the dashboard without burning credits. We can’t match that yet. AI video effects are available on Pictor Premium ($149/mo); Simple Booth lists AI video on Plus ($99/mo) and above but doesn’t surface it as a headline Core feature.

What a 200-Guest Event With Heavy AI Looks Like

Pictor estimate (illustrative — actual cost depends on token bundle size and effect mix):

  • ~200 AI image generations
  • ~200 background removals
  • ~200 share actions
  • Approximate total: a few hundred tokens — see pictor.pro/pricing for current token rates.

Simple Booth estimate (illustrative — actual cost depends on model mix):

  • 200 generations × 1–3 credits each = 200–600 credits
  • Plus background removal credits if used
  • At $0.10/credit, that’s roughly $20–$60 of credit costs on top of the $49/mo Core subscription, before any add-on features

Honest caveat: We won’t fake a guaranteed dollar figure for either platform. Both pricing models depend on the effect mix, the bundle size, and how heavy your AI usage is. The point isn’t a specific number — the point is that you should be able to predict the number before you commit. Both platforms publish their rates; run the math on your last 4 events.

Virtual Booth

This is the category where both platforms have a real story, and the differences matter if you run hybrid events.

Virtual Booth Feature Pictor Simple Booth
Browser-based virtual booth Yes Yes (web app — Virtual Booth)
AI photo in virtual booth Yes Yes (requires credits)
AI video in virtual booth Premium tier only Not surfaced as a feature in current Virtual Booth docs
Microsite branding Yes Yes (per Virtual Booth feature list)
Live capture or upload Both supported Both supported (camera & upload)
Multiple aspect ratios (square, portrait, landscape) Yes Yes
Pricing for the virtual booth Included with Pictor plans Contact sales for full pricing (not published)
Lead capture / data forms Yes Yes (basic data capture on virtual booth)
AI guest input forms (dynamic prompts) Yes (Pictor feature) Yes (AI Guest Input Forms on Pro and Select)

Pictor’s honest note: Simple Booth hides Virtual Booth pricing behind a “Contact Sales” form. That’s a real friction point if you’re trying to budget before you commit. Our virtual booth pricing is on our pricing page.

What Pictor Does That Simple Booth Doesn’t

We’re going to be straight about what’s on this list and what’s not.

1. Native Android Tablet Support

We run natively on Android tablets. Simple Booth does not — they’re iPad-only. If you have Android hardware, or you’ve been considering it because of cost or form-factor variety, this is the single biggest reason to look at us.

2. Mac and PC as a Photo Booth (via Virtual Booth)

Our virtual booth runs in a browser on any modern Mac or PC. Simple Booth’s booth software is iPad-first; Mac and PC aren’t standalone booth platforms on Simple Booth.

3. AI Video on Premium Tier

Pictor Premium ($149/mo) includes AI video effects and custom AI video generation. Simple Booth lists AI video on Plus ($99/mo) and above, but it isn’t surfaced as a headline feature on Core ($49/mo). If you need AI video capabilities, Pictor Premium and Simple Booth Plus are the entry points on both platforms.

4. Mix-and-Match Licenses on One Account

You can run a Basic, a Pro, and a Premium license on the same Pictor account, each with its own renewal date. Match the plan to the event: a Basic license for a wedding with simple prints, a Premium license for a corporate activation with heavy AI video. One bill, multiple license types.

5. 24/7 Emergency Phone Support on Every Plan

When something breaks at 11 PM on a Saturday, you can call us. Every plan includes it. Simple Booth offers phone support only on Pro and Select plans — not on Core or Plus.

6. Built by an Operator

Pictor is built and used by OutSnapped, a real photo booth business. Every feature exists because an operator at one of our events needed it. We’re an operator building software. Simple Booth is a software company that builds for operators (and their hardware team ships the HALO light). Both models ship good software; ours just happens to come from a team that’s running events the same weekend you are.

What Simple Booth Does That Pictor Doesn’t (Yet)

We’re not going to pretend we have everything. Simple Booth has features we genuinely don’t have today:

  • HALO hardware kit — they sell a complete booth-in-a-box (light + iPad mount + stand) that sets up in under a minute. We don’t sell hardware.
  • Weekly pricing tiers — they offer Core at $16/wk and Plus at $34/wk for one-off events. We don’t have a weekly option today.
  • 7-day free trial with full feature access — Simple Booth’s trial includes 25 free credits to test AI and a 15-photo-per-day upload cap. Our trial model is different.
  • Storyboard AI layouts (multi-prompt per frame) — Simple Booth’s AI Effect Studio lets you build sequential multi-frame AI experiences, not just one-prompt-one-image. We’re catching up on this.
  • AI credit-free prompt testing — you can iterate prompts in the Simple Booth dashboard without burning credits. We can’t match that yet.
  • Longer market track record — Simple Booth has been around since 2013, with 30,000+ customers and a 4.7-star app rating. We’re newer and smaller.
  • Bundled hardware + software support — when you buy a HALO kit, the same team supports the light, the mount, and the app. One point of contact.

These are real gaps. We don’t ship features we haven’t used at real events ourselves, which is why some of these take longer than they would at a software-only company. When we do ship them, we’ll be honest about what works and what doesn’t.

Real-World Cost: A Worked Example

Here’s the math for a typical operator running 8 events per month, using AI on 4 of them. Numbers are illustrative — your actual cost depends on your event mix and the credit/token bundle you buy.

Pictor Setup (2 Pro licenses + a token bundle)

Item Cost
2× Pro licenses $198/mo
Token bundle (enough for ~80 AI images × 4 events) Varies — see pictor.pro/pricing for current rates
Total subscription + estimated AI Subscription $198/mo + AI tokens (your usage)

Simple Booth Setup (1 Pro license + 1 Core add-on + AI credits)

Item Cost
1× Pro license ($149/mo) $149/mo
1× Core add-on license ($36/mo) $36/mo
AI credits (1–3 per image; estimate 400 credits for 4 events) ~$40 in credit costs at $0.10/credit (illustrative)
Background removal credits (if used) Additional — see simplebooth.com/plans-and-pricing
Total subscription + estimated AI Subscription $185/mo + usage credits

Honest caveat: The subscription numbers are close — Pictor at $198 vs. Simple Booth at $185 for two booths. The variable part (AI credit costs vs. AI token costs) depends on your event mix, so we won’t fake a number there. Run the math on your last 4 events on both pricing pages before you decide.

Pictor’s honest note: If you run heavy AI, our token model has predictable published rates. If you run light AI and want a weekly option for one-off gigs, Simple Booth’s weekly tiers ($16/wk, $34/wk) are hard to beat.

Who Each Platform Is Best For

Pictor is probably right for you if:

  • You want to run on Android tablets — or you’ve been considering it because Android tablets are cheaper to deploy
  • You want a virtual booth with AI photo on every tier (AI video on Premium/$149/mo), with published pricing
  • You need one phone number to call when something goes wrong live, on every plan
  • You like mix-and-match licensing across a single account
  • “Built by an operator” matters to you — and it should, because operators know what other operators actually need

Simple Booth is probably right for you if:

  • Your fleet is iPad-only and you want the HALO hardware bundle (light + iPad mount + stand) from one vendor
  • You run one-off events and want a weekly pricing option ($16/wk Core, $34/wk Plus)
  • You want a 4.7-star app that’s been in market since 2013 with 30,000+ customers
  • You need storyboard AI layouts (multi-frame AI prompts)
  • You want credit-free prompt testing in the dashboard

The Bottom Line

If your fleet is iPad and you want the HALO hardware kit sold as one bundle, Simple Booth is built for that workflow and you’re not going to find a better option today.

If you want to run on Android tablets or a Mac mini, want AI photo built into every plan (or AI video on Premium), want a virtual booth with published pricing, and want software built by a team that’s running events the same weekend you are — we’d love to show you what Pictor can do.
