Getting to six figures is hard. Getting past it is a different problem.

At some point, booking more events stops being the answer. The calendar is full, you’re still on site most weekends, and every decision still runs through you. The operators who break through to $500K and beyond aren’t just working harder. They price differently, build systems earlier and stop being the person who does everything.

This week on Show & Tell, Nicholas is joined by the team behind Illuminate, the application-only retreat for six and seven figure photo booth founders: Catalina Bloch of MDRN Creative Group, Meir Israel of South Beach Photo Booth Co. and Lisa Oler of Nuna. They just brought established operators together in Miami. Now they’re bringing the biggest lessons to everyone who wasn’t in the room.

What we’ll get into

  • Inside Illuminate. What happened when established operators got in a room together, the conversations that stood out and what surprised the hosts.
  • The million-dollar question. What separates a $100K business from a $500K or $1M one, and whether the gap is mindset, systems, pricing or something else.
  • Revenue and growth. Larger events, corporate clients, repeat contracts or more booths: which revenue models leave the most room to grow, and when more bookings stop being the best strategy.
  • Pricing and positioning. How to move from selling equipment and hours to selling experiences clients pay premium prices for.
  • Systems and scaling. Which processes to standardize first, what to automate, what to keep personal and how to hold quality as volume grows.
  • Becoming the business owner. When to hire or delegate, what founders find hardest to let go of and how the owner’s role changes as revenue grows.
  • Your next 90 days. Where a six-figure operator should look first, and how to choose which growth opportunity to chase.
  • Live Q&A. Bring your biggest question about scaling.

What happened at Illuminate

The Illuminate team built the retreat because, in their words, founders past six figures “had nowhere to talk about what comes next: pricing, hiring, cash flow, systems, and winning corporate and agency work.” Here’s what they shared with us about the first one:

  • Speakers from outside the photo booth world. Julius Solaris (founder of EventMB) opened the retreat. Adrian Salamunovic (co-founder of CanvasPop) covered exit strategy, Adrienne Dorison (Level 11 Leaders) covered delegation and systems, and Dr. NaTasha Jordan (former VP of Executive Development at VaynerMedia) spoke on founder mindset and leadership. Sessions also covered AI as business infrastructure, cash flow, content creation, and contracts, privacy and liability.
  • A working activation floor. Founders used every booth on site, shot their own content and left with recipe cards covering the parts, settings and hardware to build each one themselves.
  • Hands-on sessions. Cat taught a class on building Scribble Booths for corporate events and closed the retreat with a keynote on designing activations that start from the client’s goal.
  • The room. Seating changed every day so founders met people outside their own circle.

The team’s three biggest takeaways, which we’ll dig into live:

  1. Price from the value you deliver. Founders at this level are experiential marketing partners for brands and agencies, and their pricing has to reflect that.
  2. Corporate work comes from designing around the client’s goal. An activation that is memorable and measurable is what gets rebooked.
  3. Growth past six figures takes systems and delegation. Hustle gets a business to its first $100K to $250K. The next stage needs a business that runs without the founder on every job.

What does it take to grow a photo booth business past six figures?

Most photo booth businesses stall when the owner becomes the bottleneck. Growth past six figures usually comes from three shifts: raising the value of each booking instead of adding more of them, putting repeatable systems in place so events run the same way without you, and handing off work so the owner can run the company instead of every event. Corporate clients and recurring contracts tend to matter more than one-off social bookings, and profit matters more than top-line revenue.

That’s the conversation. Not a list of tactics, but what actually changes when an operator stops thinking about individual events and starts building a company.

Can you reach $1M by booking more events?

Probably not on your own. There are only so many Saturdays in a year, and only so many events one owner can staff, sell and deliver. The panel will dig into where the extra revenue really comes from, and why revenue and profitability are two different conversations.

If you want the pricing side first, catch up on how to price your time with Chris Meyer. Meir’s line from our Fall 2026 trends roundtable still holds: what you actually sell is your time, not the products, because the products always change.

The systems behind a business that scales

Every growing operator hits the same wall. The workflow that worked at 50 events a year breaks at 200. Templates get rebuilt from scratch, galleries go out late, and quality depends on who’s running the booth that day.

We’ll talk about which systems need to be in place before you scale, and why having software and tools that work together matters more as the team grows. Nicholas will share how Pictor fits into that picture for operators running more events with more people. New to Pictor? Start a free trial before Wednesday.

About the Illuminate team

Illuminate is an application-only creative retreat for photo booth founders running six- and seven-figure businesses. The first one ran October 11 to 14, 2026, at the Gale Miami Hotel and Residences. Attendees needed at least $100K in annual revenue and were vetted through an application. It follows PBPI (Photo Booth Professionals International), the industry conference Meir and Lisa ran in 2016 and 2018.

Catalina (Cat) Bloch is the founder and CEO of MDRN Creative Group in Ottawa, the company behind MDRN Activations (experiential activations for brands and agencies) and MDRN Photobooth Co. (premium weddings and social events). She grew MDRN to seven figures in eight years, with teams in Ottawa, Toronto and Vancouver. Through Photo Booth Mastery she has coached more than 250 photo booth owners on pricing, sales and systems. Read her story in our operator spotlight.

Meir Israel founded South Beach Photo Booth Co. (SoBe Booths) and has run it for 16 years, serving corporate activations, branded experiences and premium social events. He co-built PBPI. On our Fall 2026 trends roundtable he talked about deliberately cutting the number of products he offers so clients aren’t choosing from a muddled menu.

Lisa Oler founded Smile Lounge 16 years ago and is now a partner at Nuna, where she leads U.S. activations. She has run her own photo booth business and built industry conferences, including PBPI with Meir, so she knows what founders need from both seats.

The format

(Almost) every Wednesday, Pictor Show & Tell brings together photo booth operators, industry experts and creative business owners to share ideas and practical advice. No long presentations. Real conversation, useful examples and live questions, with the chat open the whole time. Sessions run about an hour and are free.

Can’t make it live? RSVP anyway. We send the recording to everyone registered, and the recap lands here on the blog.

Do this before Wednesday

Pull last year’s numbers and answer three questions:

  1. How much of your revenue came from your top ten clients?
  2. How many events did you personally work?
  3. What’s one task you did every week that someone else could have done?

Bring your answers. They’re the starting point for the conversation about your next 90 days.
